solunska 36
Building Assembly of Solunska 36 and its treasurer Gordana Diklic were one of the first cooperators. She gathered several trusted fellow neighbors (Zoran Peric, Dragutin Lukic, Vojislav Nikolic …) and the meetings started in the last week of Jun 2007.
The art work was initially thought to redecorate a small glass-window box-like place right next to the building gate and thus initiate action and create a space for Building Assembly meetings. To do so, we needed to relocate the mailboxes into the building foyer. This would clear the wall and make a room for the wall paper. That way, the art work would be noticeable from the street side thus ‘exhibited’ due to the position and ‘gallery-like’’ space structure. We all liked this solution very much. But, due to cost that that would go over the project budget the realization of idea was shifted from the ‘glass box’ to the elevator waiting area of the building foyer.
After the enquire about location and motif of art work among the residents, majority of residents made the decision to place the wall paper in the building foyer over the glass wall.
The winning motif for the wall paper, suggested by the retired history teacher Zoran Peric, was A view of Nebojsa Tower from the Belgrade Fortress.
Right before the execution of art work, the incident with one resident unsatisfied with whole idea delayed realization.
The Building Assembly was called upon a second time to vote weather there would be a realization of the project at all. Final decision was made in favor of project realization (one vote against and 4 votes in favor).
Despite the difficulties, Gordana managed to finish up the project and to even initiate an idea of an opening night. The first Elevator Art wall paper print was mounted on July 31st 2007.
Two hours after the execution, the art work was deliberately damaged with a sharp object. We couldn’t trace the perpetrator.
Two days after, the work was illuminated with a spot light, paid by the building residents and specially installed for the purpose of presentation and
opening on August 8th 2007.
