Elevator Art is community based contemporary art project, located in Dorcol one of the oldest municipalities in the heart of Belgrade, Serbia. It consists of three art works donated to Building Assemblies of the three residential complexes (in Solunska 36, Dubrovacka 24 and Dunavski kej 18) involved.
The project associates were randomly chosen after one month research conducted in the Dorcol neighborhood searching for the answer to what can a contemporary artist do for its neighbors and what would be a position and a role of contemporary art / artist in the contemporary society?
The art works were thought as a product of cooperation with associates in each residential complex. They mediated communication between author and the building residents and helped in conducting intern canvases (edited in Photohsop) where the location and motifs of art works were voted by its residents.
The participants became owners and curators of contemporary art work and the buildings became alternative yet legitimate ‘spaces for presentation and preservation of contemporary art’ and unusual meeting places of ‘actual and possible’.
